Recognise the pattern
You’re still getting things done. But the work that needs your best thinking is getting whatever is left after everything else.
It’s easy to call it a busy month. Especially when the business is still getting results.
Inside the guide
The guide breaks “always on” down into four recognisable patterns, so you can see which one sounds most familiar.
The energy cost
Running on caffeine and adrenaline, with less of your sharpest thinking available for the work that matters.
The decision cost
Re-reading, second-guessing and carrying decisions for days that you once made with confidence.
The presence cost
Thinking about work at home, then feeling bad about home when you’re trying to work.
The consistency cost
Good days followed by flat ones, making your output harder for you and your team to rely on.
You’ll also see the other side of E.D.G.E.: Energised, Decisive, Grounded and Engaged. Start by recognising where you are now.
Before the next busy month
Maybe you’ve told yourself it will change after the next hire, the next deadline or the next growth phase.
But when each stage brings more decisions and more responsibility, “temporary” can become the way you operate.
This guide is a chance to stop and notice what that pattern is costing you. You don’t need to wait for everything to fall apart before looking at it.

About the author
I spent more than 25 years in construction and ran my own company for 12 of them. The business was making money. I was fit and competing in triathlon. From the outside, things looked good.
I didn’t recognise what being constantly switched on was costing me until much later. The four consequences in this guide came from that experience, not a productivity checklist.
I wrote it to help founders notice the patterns I kept explaining away.
